Something happened to our NewLISP Fan Club Forum. Maybe a stray cosmic ray flipped a critical bit. Maybe it was a script kiddie, causing a little trouble. The hosting service is keeping quiet about any hardware problems. . .
Whatever caused it, it surprised me too! I'd like to think it's NewLISP reaching a critical mass--becoming sentient--reprogramming itself to say something profound.
This is a good opportunity to upgrade the BBS software and play around with the Forum's style a bit. It will take a few days to attend to all the details, and the Forum may look a little odd from time to time, but be assured that the data is safely backed up, the bills are all paid, and we're working on it!
Oops, another surprise this morning.
Ryon, thanks again for your support of the newlisp community by providing this great forum.
Keep on!
;-)
Ryon,
Should changing the board style in my profile give me a different board look?
I like this style 'Avalanche' even better than yesterday's. Perhaps we can vote somehow on it.

I have the feature turned off until I get a chance to work on the alternate styles, Hans-Peter. PhpBB should have blanked this option while it is disabled. It's not fair to tease people like that!
Woooooooooooow what happened ;-) Need to get used to new layout ;-)
Great change !
Actualy 1 remark.. I liked the "wide screen" forum.. It gives abetter overview.
Is it selectable?
I'm considering a wider screen style, and should have it ready in a few days. Thanks for your input, newdep! And if anyone has comments about the style or functionality of this site, please feel free.
I like the new style because it looks fresh and modern. I also like the color scheme, which is very popular right now, not only on the web, but TV too and http://newlisp.org has adapted to it. Thanks Ryan for taking the time doing this. The functionality is pretty much the same as before and pretty much what is standard in forum software, wherever you go, and at least for me it works well.

With all due respect, I have been been using it the last weeks, but for me, it's too unconvenient. Because the layout has become too small, and the colors are not edit-friendly. Sorry. I prefer the previous layout of the forum.
At some forums people can provide their own preferences. Is it possible with this forum as well?
Again sorry for my exclamations...
Wider, and different colors. Thanks for the feedback! I'll try to have optional, alternate styles by next week.
A couple of comments on the new layout:
1) I prefer web pages that make full use of the available screen
width, generally by using three columns.
The laptop I use to read the forum
is 1280 x 800 pixels so it has a lot of width but not so much
height. This makes for a lot of vertical scrolling especially
when you consider the tab bar, tool bar, icon bar, address bar,
menu bar, and window title (using Firefox) that take up vertical
space.
2) The forum index page title should be something like "NewLISP Fan Club"
instead of ":: Index".
3) There should be a favicon.ico file so that you can have a little
icon on the tab bar (Firefox again). To see an example, go
to newlisp.org and look at the page source.
Ryon, thanks for the wider screen style!
;-)
Thanks! Much better this way!
Peter
Oops! What you saw was me fiddling around with one of the styles, which I forgot to turn off!
I'm not happy with it yet, but you can now go into your profile and choose it, if you wish. Its name is 'subSilver'. More styles soon.
Hello Ryon,
Thanks for the addon!
Regards, Norman.
Hello Ryan,
A matter of taste, but I liked the smaller 'newLISP Fan Club' logo at the top we had before more than the new one. The new one looks not sharp.
Lutz write newLISP always with lower case 'n'. Maybe you should use a different font and antialiased graphic.
The logo IS antialiased, which is why it looks a little fuzzy. (And it is misspelled too, thanks for pointing that out.) I've never been a big fan of antialiasing, and I agree that the optional subSilver style looks sort of tacky. I've been working long hours, mostly nights, and haven't had the psychic energy to do much with this style yet.
Keep the comments and suggestions coming in, they DO inspire me!
